Swiss tennis ace Roger Federer has expressed confidence that his game still has the potential to reach its former levels after he entered the second round of the Dubai Open and began the bid to revive his former fortunes.

The 17-time Major winner, who is now in the eight spot in the world, beat German Benjamin Becker 6-1, 6-4 in only 62 minutes with some care-free hitting, lively footwork and an air of authority which evoked his greatest days.

According to Sport24, Federer said that he wants to do well in Dubai to show that his Australian open semi-final last month represented a step forward and not backwards, and that his game still has the potential to reach its former levels.

Federer is confident that he does not need to top his Melbourne efforts, which saw him beat Wimbledon champion Andy Murray and former Australian Open finalist Tomas Berdych, as he is playing 'top tennis' currently.

Federer further said that for him, it is now a matter of staying healthy, consistent, getting to semi-finals and finals consistently and giving himself opportunities, adding that he feels that he is in a good shape to last for atleast a year.
