A report has revealed that forces from the Libyan city of Misrata have regained control of Tripoli's main airport following more than a month of fighting with a rival group.

The statement was made by a Misrata spokesman, reported The Guardian. Pictures on social media websites showed Misrata fighters celebrating their victory at the terminal building and standing on civilian planes.

If the claim is confirmed, the victory would be a significant advance in the battle to reclaim the capital city of Tripoli, the report added.
