Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has said that the nation's security forces are well prepared to counter any terror threat during U.S.President Barack Obama's upcoming visit to New Delhi for this year's Republic Day celebrations.

Speaking to media at the "At Home" function organized at the army chief's residence on the occasion of Army Day-2015 last evening, Parriker appeared to endorse General Officer Commanding, 16 Corps, Lt.Gen. K H Singh's, earlier remarks that the Indian Army is in a position to counter reports of a possible attack by about 200 heavily-armed militants waiting in 36 launching pads across the Line of Control (LoC) in the Pir Panjal Range.

"About 200 militants in 36 launch pads across Pir Panchal Range are trying to infiltrate into the Indian side," Lt. Gen. Singh had said on Thursday.

He further said that the country's counter-infiltration posture is firmly in place.

"Situation in the LoC, south of Pir Panjal is by and large peaceful, at least for the last two months or so. Our counter infiltration posture is firmly in place; infiltration bid will be eliminated if any attempt is made. The Indian Army remains prepared all the time for any eventuality, for anything that may unfold," Lt. Gen. Singh added.

"Like Army Chief Dalbir Singh said the terrorist infrastructure in PoK is intact. In 2014, the LoC was calm; there were 15 infiltration bids in 2014 which were foiled.

Pakistan security establishments are currently tackling their own home-grown terrorists," he had said.

He also said that there are inputs that terrorists might try to attack schools, army camps, national highways and civilian areas on Republic Day.
