Four engineering students drowned on Sunday, while taking bath in a water barrage in Bankura district in West Bengal.
The incident happened when 11 students from B.C. Roy Engineering College went at the Durgapur water barrage. Three students, who have been identified as Aditya Roy, Chandrajit Kumar and Nitish Kumar, drowned while rescuing their fellow Shubham Pankaj, who fell in water and did not know how to swim.
"Total 11 people were there. We had come here around 11:30am (0600 GMT). One or two people went inside the water. A few were standing outside. Only one boy was drowning, to save him, many jumped inside the water. Only one came out and there is no idea about the remaining three," said an eyewitness, Dibakananda Jha.
Fishermen and police recovered bodies from the water barrage and were sent to Durgapur Bidhannagar Hospital and Bankura Medical College.
