Police in IT hub Bangalore nabbed two wanted notorious gang leaders, and a huge cache of crude weapons such as revolvers and machetes.

The Commissioner of Police, Bangalore Raghavendra Auradkar on Sunday , told reporters that four members of a gang were arrested. The gang had been active in outskirts of Bangalore city threatening people and extorting money from them.

Police said locals were dejected due to looting by the gang in the area.

Auradkar said a team was set to get to the main operatives of the gang after the police had nabbed its seven members on April 24.

He also said that the criminals were planning to kill some dignitary (VIP) in neighbouring state of Andhra Pradesh.

Auradkar said at the tip off intelligence combing was launched in the area to arrest the criminals who had been hiding in a house on the outer edges of Bangalore.

"Yesterday our officers got information that in Hindupur, Andhra Pradesh, and Anandpur district four members of the gang were present there. Joint Commissioner Nimbalkar and other inspectors reached the spot. The leader of the gang, Hunigal Giri found out that Bangalore police had reached the spot so he tried to escape" he said

The culprits tried to escape from the spot but were nabbed by the police after an exchange of fire due to which the gang leader attained minor injuries and was admitted in a hospital for first aid, said police.
