American golfer Rickie Fowler has had a new haircut with his team's initials U.S.A. shaved into the side of his head and his captain Tom Watson has reportedly selected a motivational chant for a Ryder Cup that does not even start until Friday.
The passion in the players participating in golf's biennial showdown between Europe and the United States (US) is amazing and the 40 th edition of this event launched on Monday with the players of the two teams arriving in Scotland and assembling at Gleneagles.
Fowler, ranked 10th, shocked the US squad with his new haircut, which features the USA lettring shaved into the right side of his head, extending from back to front over his right ear, Sport24 reported.
Watson said that he thought it was great and terrific, adding that Fowler's haircut brings a spirit, a light spirit to the team.
Even European captain Paul McGinley had to take off his hat to the move and said that he thinks that is great, adding that the American golfer is so passionate about his country that he will go and do that for the Ryder Cup.
Watson, who won eight major titles and five British Opens, also has a counterbalance cheer for the American supporters, taken from a popular chant in support of the US World Cup football squad.
Watson said that when they hear the 'Ole, Ole, Ole,' they have the US soccer cheer 'We believe that we can win,' and added that it is really exciting when one hears it done, as it is pretty cool.
The US Ryder Cup team captain said that there would be some noise out there and some cheering.
Watson is beloved in Scotland, where he won British Open crowns at Carnoustie in 1975, Turnberry in 1977, Muirfield in 1980 and Royal Troon in 1982, the report added.
