American golfer Rickie Fowler, who finished in the top-five at every golf major this season, has reportedly been shocked at the attention he received for shaving 'U.S.A.' into his head ahead of the Ryder Cup.

Fowler, who has long been a fashion trendsetter with colourful outfits with his fashion style now spreading to hairdos, admitted that it has gone a bit crazier than he expected.

Fowler said that he just thought he would do it for a little team spirit and knew the guys on the team would like it, adding that it has been fun to see the reaction, Sport24 reported.

The American also said that he didn't really expect for it to take off as much as it has, adding that he has seen pictures of people back home getting a similar haircut.

Fowler said that he has seen a few pictures posted on Instagram, adding that he saw one guy has got an 'EU' on the side of his head, so it works both ways, for Europe or the US.

But, he added that it is just cool to see a lot of people coming together and kind of jumping on.

There have been some critics but they do not worry Fowler. He said that it is all about showing spirit for country, adding that they are proud to be over there, proud to be part of the US team and this is just a different way of showing it.

Fowler said that if people take it the wrong way, it's too bad for them, adding that it is unfortunate and one has got to show some patriotism and spirit for their country.
