Gary Linker is set to don a white beard and robes to appear in pal Eric Idle's hit West End stage show Spamalot.

Idle, who used to be the 52-year-old football legend's next-door neighbor, took to Twitter asking him to play the divine part for charity, the Daily Star reported.

The former Everton ace replied immediately that he would love to do that.

Lineker, who is best known for hosting 'Match Of The Day', would appear as God briefly in the musical, which is loosely based on hit film 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail'.
