Justin Gatlin ran the joint sixth-quickest 100 meters, laying down an incredible marker for the rest of the athletics season by running a personal best of 9.74 seconds, to win the race at the Diamond League in Doha.

The Olympic gold medalist who served a two doping bans, including a four-year suspension from 2006 to 2010, sprinted away to win his first race of this year in less than seconds, the BBC reported.

Meanwhile, Britain's James Dasaolu didn't have the greatest of nights as he finished last after completing the race in 10.14 seconds.

The American sprinter's time of 9.74 seconds has been only bettered by Tyson Gay, Jamaica's Asafa Powell and Usain Bolt who set the world record of 9.58 seconds in Berlin in 2009.

The 33-year athlete old now represents a clear threat to Usain Bolt, who has not run quicker than 9.74 seconds since winning gold medal at the London Olympics in 2012.
