President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday said that there is a need to develop global mindset in the students, and added that good education is the essential step for creating such a mindset
"We live in an increasingly globalized world. If we, as a nation, have to successfully interact in this great melting pot, we have to develop a global mindset in our students. Good education is the essential step for creating such a mindset," he said after the inauguration of the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations of Kishinchand Chellaram (KC) College here today.
He further said that the potential of information and communication technologies to aid better delivery of education has been undermined so far.
"The constraint in creating physical infrastructure in higher education has to be overcome by technology solutions. The National Knowledge Network has to be leveraged by all academic and research institutions for greater intellectual collaboration and sharing of ideas. There is so much technology can provide that it is a sheer waste not to use technology to the fullest extent possible," he said.
He further said multi-pronged steps centred on quality, accessibility and affordability are required to hoist higher education sector to the past glories.
"Seats of ancient learning like Nalanda and Takshashila had dominated the world education system between the sixth century BC and twelfth century AD. Rejuvenating the higher education sector will require all its components to move in tandem," he added.
