Ahead of their 'tolerance' march, the Congress on Tuesday slammed the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA Government for limiting the number of protesters only to 125, saying it was a blatant attempt to curb freedom and democracy.
"We will march to the Rashtrapati Bhawan under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi to protest against the culture of intolerance, stifling of dissent and spreading hate politics," Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala told ANI here.
Slamming the Centre for limiting the number of protesters to 125, Surjewala said on what grounds were the restriction being imposed on the main Opposition party.
"If you put such kind of restrictions on the main opposition party, what will you do with the freedom of the common man? Are Congress leaders a threat to the security of Delhi? This is a curb on freedom," he added.
The Delhi Police had earlier informed the Congress that only 125 people would be permitted to participate in the march. The stretch that the party will march on, from Parliament to the President's House, is under prohibitory orders and heavy security has been deployed.
The Congress have began gathering at Vijay Chowk and from there, they will commence their 'tolerance' march to the Rashtrapati Bhawan to appeal to President Pranab Mukherjee to use his constitutional powers to end the "atmosphere of intolerance".
