Up to 2,500 women applied henna designs on their hands within 11 minutes in Surat city on Saturday and made a bid to enter Guinness Book of World Record.
The event was part of a mass marriage ceremony, to be held on Monday (February 5).
"They are making a world record by applying henna on the hands of 2500 women," said Guinness Book of World Records official Ashwin Sudani.
Organised by Samast Ahir Samaj, this year's mass marriage ceremony will see about 502 couples tying the knot tomorrow.
The organisation has been holding this event for the last 24 years.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah, Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, and Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel among others will attend the ceremony tomorrow.
