Gwyneth Paltrow opens up about working with Harvey Weinstein, calls him "a bully"

American actor Gwyneth Paltrow reflected upon her working relationship with film producer Harvey Weinstein.

The 46-year-old actor revealed to Variety in a recent interview that while she received a lot of critical acclaim for her roles in 'Emma' and 'Shakespeare in Love', working with Weinstein was a tough thing to do.

"He was a very difficult boss. It was a fraught relationship," Paltrow said.

She added that the two of them used to get into fights. "We would get in knock-down, drag-out fights. I remember once, my mother [Blythe Danner] walked in the room and I was yelling at him about something. She was like, 'Who was that on the phone?'"

When Paltrow told her mother it was Weinstein, Danner said, "Oh, my goodness, good for you. Stand up for yourself."

After 1996's hit film 'Emma', the actor worked with Weinstein again for 1998's 'Shakespeare in Love' for which she won an Oscar for Best Actress.

The actor accused Weinstein of sexual misconduct and harassment in a lengthy profile in The New York Times in October 2017. However, Weinstein denied all the allegations made by Paltrow.

Since working with the 66-year-old producer, Paltrow starred in a couple of classics, although she admitted that she has taken a step back from Hollywood to focus more of her other endeavours like her lifestyle brand 'Goop'.

"I think the movies and the business around them have changed so much in the last 20 years," she said in her interview with Variety.

She continued, "I don't think any of the movies that I'm known for would get made today. Would they make The Royal Tenenbaums? Would they make The Talented Mr. Ripley? Would they make Shakespeare in Love?"

In the end, Paltrow while talking about Weinstein said, "I never had a problem standing up to him. I wasn't scared of him. I also felt for a period of time, I was the consumer face of Miramax, and I felt it was my duty to push back against him."

While Paltrow has put her acting career on hold, the star has remained in the pop culture with her role as Pepper Potts in the 'Iron Man' and 'Avengers' films while also launching Goop in 2008.

On the work front, she is all set to star in the upcoming TV series 'The Politician' alongside Lucy Boynton, Zoey Deutch, Jessica Lange, Dylan McDermott and Ben Platt.
