Mercedes racer Lewis Hamilton has admitted that the scale of the task ahead for winning the F1 World Championship title was now like running up Everest, without oxygen, in swimming trunks, after he fell 81 points behind in the title race.
According to the Mirror, the Mercedes man finished this must-win Italian GP race a distant ninth, while Sebastian Vettel cruised to his sixth victory in 12 races to put one hand on his fourth successive world title.
The young German now has a 53-point lead over Fernando Alonso, who was second at Monza but never in contention, the report said.
A day after labeling himself an idiot, Hamilton was again his own biggest critic despite what was unquestionably the drive of the day, the report added.
He said that he was very disappointed with himself and that was it for the championship, adding that he was still going to try.
