Indian pacer Umesh Yadav struck early to dismiss West Indies for 311 in their first innings on day two of the second Test here at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
West Indies, which began the day with 295 for 7, could only add 16 runs to take their total to 311.
Yadav picked up three wickets in half-an-hour to undo the hard work done by Windies batsman Royston Chase, who scored 106 off 189 balls, and Jason Holder, who scored 52 off 92 deliveries.
Incidentally, Umesh also registered his best bowling figures in Test cricket as he picked up 6 for 88 runs. This was also the first time since 1999 when an Indian bowler picked up six or more wickets at home.
India has posted 80 runs on the scoreboard for the loss of one wicket at lunch.
The Men in Blue are currently leading the Two-match Test series 1-0. If they manage to win this match, it would be their 10th consecutive series win at home since 2013.
The ongoing series against West Indies is part of India's preparation ahead of the crucial Test series against Australia and the 2019 International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup.
