Imran Khan says Sharif has destroyed key institutions to hide corruption

Asserting that National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) had lost credibility by failing to issue notices in the wake of the Panama Papers controversy, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has said that his party has filed a petition in the Supreme Court (SC) against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

"The premier has been destroying key institutions to hide corruption.. Nawaz Sharif lied to the nation in order to transfer wealth abroad," the Express Tribune quoted Imran, as saying.

Addressing media in Lahore yesterday, he said that the decision was made after much deliberation.

The party has sought disqualification of Sharif as well as an inquiry into the Panamagate scandal.

Khan said his party would send delegations to different political parties to formally invite them to join their September 3 rally in Lahore.

The PTI had earlier submitted a disqualification reference to

the National Assembly speaker against Sharif over allegations including money laundering, tax evasion and concealment of assets in the nomination papers filed by him to contest the election.

Sharif has been under pressure since documents released as part of the Panama Papers data leak on May this year showed his children owned several off-shore companies.
