India, Bangladesh vow to stop killings on border

India and Bangladesh have vowed to stop killings on the border that separates the two countries.

Chiefs of the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Border Guard of Bangladesh have agreed to take measures to prevent such untoward incidents in the border regions.

BSF Director General Subhash Joshi assured Bangladesh that New Delhi had no plans to fly drone or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) over the neighbouring nation.

Border Guards of Bangladesh Director General Major General Aziz Ahmed said both countries had agreed upon bringing sown the death toll in incidents of border killings.

"The Bangladesh side expressed their deep concerns over the issues of killing or injury and beating of Bangladeshi nationals at the border. Both sides agreed that incidents of death and loss of life at the border are extremely unfortunate and regrettable. Both sides agreed to take all possible measures to bring down the death toll further," said Major General Aziz Ahmed.

The two countries also discussed measures to contain trans-border crimes and ways to increase a coordinated patrolling in the border region, so as to curb movement of insurgents across the boundary.

Traditional economic and cultural links between India and Bangladesh have been greatly enhanced with Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina visiting India in January 2010, followed by a return visit by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in September 2011.
