India needs modernisation, not westernisation': Modi

Expressing concern about the education system in our country, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that 'what India needed was modernisation, not westernisation'.

Addressing students at Pune's Fergusson College, Modi said: "Education has become a money-making business. We have become money-making machine from man-making machine. We need modernisation, not westernization."

"Since independence, we don't have a single education institution which can make us proud in the world," he added.

Modi further said that his speech is a reflection of the youth of the country which also includes suggestions he received by them through social networking site like Facebook.

"This speech is of those people who are pro-active on social media and who have written to me, I am just lending my words to it," he added.

Modi said that over 65 per cent of the country's population comprise youth below 35 years of age who are concerned with the affairs of the country.

"While the young generation has lot of talent, they need a proper direction," he added.

"65 percent population in this country is young, we are youngest nation. India is fortunate to have this young population. The youth of this nation need the right direction, they play a vital role in nation-building," he added.
