The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Monday said that the Deputy High Commissioner of Pakistan was summoned, over the indiscriminate firing by Pakistani security personnel, in which one fisherman from Gujarat died, and called for a thorough probe into this incident immediately.

"Yes, the Deputy High Commissioner of Pakistan was this evening summoned by the Ministry of External Affairs. It was conveyed to him that the Government of India condemns the incident of indiscriminate firing on unarmed Indian fisherman by the vessel of Pakistan Maritime Security Agency, which led to the death of one Indian fisherman," MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said.

"We have asked that incident be investigated thoroughly and its result to be shared with us at an early date, he added.

Earlier on October 11, Indian fisherman Naran Bhai Sosa was killed in the shooting, when personnel of the Pakistani maritime agency opened fire on Indian fishing boat 'Dhanvantari', when they were fishing in international waters.

According to reports, Sosa was killed and 30 others were allegedly kidnapped by the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency on Saturday off Jakhau coast in Gujarat. The fishermen were allegedly taken away in five boats.
