India to confront Pak over fresh evidences provided by US on Pathankot attack

India would confront Pakistan regarding fresh evidences received from the United States (U.S.) in connection with the Pathankot terror attack case, National Investigation Agency (NIA) sources told ANI on Monday.

The agency is compiling a detailed report based on the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) request sent to the U.S. and information received from the U.S. in this connection three months back, which nails Pakistan for the attack, said sources.

The NIA will send a detailed report to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), following which India will once again send a report to Islamabad on fresh evidences on Pakistan's role in the attack.

India wants Pakistan to allow the Indian team to visit there to collect evidences in connection with the Pathankot attack. India had also made a formal request to the Pakistan Government after

In May, the investigation agency has sent its first formal request for a visit to Pakistan to carry forward its investigation into the terror case after Islamabad did not reply to the Letters Rogatory sent on the Pathankot airbase attack case,.

On the question of terror funding, sources said an NIA team comprising one Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG)-level officer and two Superintendents of Police (SP)-level officers are conducting inquiries into the matter is Srinagar.

The MLAT is an agreement between two or more countries for the purpose of gathering and exchanging information in an effort to enforce public laws or criminal laws. Modern states have developed mechanisms for requesting and obtaining evidence for criminal investigations and prosecutions.
