Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda on Thursday said that the Centre has set the target of eliminating malaria from country by 2030.

"The Centre is committed to achieving the target of elimination of malaria by 2030, which will require huge financial resources. The government will effectively work with the development partners and civil society," Health Minister Nadda said.

The Health Minister further said that 70 percent of malaria cases and 69 percent of malaria deaths among South East Asian Region countries occur in India, while launching the National Framework for Malaria Elimination (2016-2030) here.

"The objective of the framework is to reduce the incidence of malaria to less than one case per thousand population a year in all states by 2024," he added.

He further urged the states to include malaria eradication programme in their policy.

The move of Centre comes after neighbouring countries like Sri Lanka and Nepal reported no deaths due to the vector-borne disease in the past few years.
