India, US discuss counter-terrorism strategies ahead of Nuclear Security Summit

Senior officials of the governments of India and the United States met here on Wednesday to exchange views on the terrorist threat being posed by the Islamic State across the globe and particularly in West Asia, and reiterated the importance of combating the IS ideology that was fuelling and encouraging other such groups.

A statement issued by the U.S. National Security Council (NSC) spokesman Ned Price, said that India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met with his American counterpart Ambassador Susan Rice at the White House where they exchanged views on "the terrorist threat posed by the ISIL in the region, and the importance of combating the ideology that fuels such groups."

Price further informed that both Mr. Doval and Ambassador Rice also discussed counter-terrorism cooperation, including against the Lashkar-e-Tayyiba and the Jaish-e-Mohammad.

The NSC statement further revealed that they additionally "exchanged views on prospects for commercial progress this year under the U.S.-India civil nuclear cooperation agreement.

According to the statement, Ambassador Rice reiterated U.S. support for India's membership in the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) and the Missile Technology Control regime (MTCR).
