The first ODI of the five-match series between India and West Indies was abandoned after rains started pouring during the Indian innings here at the Queen's Park Oval on Friday.

Put into bat first, the hosts had a great start with Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane sharing a 132-run opening partnership to help India reach 199-3 before rains interrupted play.

Rahane, who was brought into the side in place of Rohit Sharma, got out after playing a cautious yet decent knock of 67 runs. During his 78-ball inning, Rahane hit 8 fours.

Dhawan, who has been in great knick ever since the Champions Trophy, soon followed after getting LBW of Devendra Bishoo's ball. He got out for 87 runs and his knock was studded with 8 fours and 2 sixes.

The Men in Blue were looking to Kohli and Mahendra Singh Dhoni for a big finishing kick when the rain arrived.

The rain did let up for a bit, and the water and the covers were cleared too, the hosts were then set 194 in 26 overs, but more rain arrived before they could begin their chase and the match officials finally called off the game.

Bishoo was the pick of the bowlers for the home team as he kept India tied down through a spell of 10-0-39-1.

Wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav made his ODI debut as he was chosen over star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

The two teams will next lock horns on June 25 at the same venue.
