Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that India will reach out to those affected by Saturday's tremors, following an earthquake that hit Nepal and Northern India.

According to reports, the epicentre of the tremors was said to be in Pokhra, Nepal, with the European Mediterranean Seismological Center stating that the earthquake measured 7.4 on the Richter scale.

"News has come in about an Earthquake in Nepal. Several parts of India also experienced tremors," the Prime Minister tweeted.

"We are in the process of finding more information and are working to reach out to those affected, both at home and in Nepal," he added.

Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force stations of Sarsawa, Bareilly, Hindon, Chandigarh and Gwalior have reportedly been put on high alert for relief operations.

Further details are awaited.
