Former cricketer and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kirti Azad on Tuesday said that indiscipline is the sole reason behind the controversy surrounding the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament.

Azad expressed his delight with the decision of Justice R.M. Lodha-led committee to ban IPL franchises Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) for a period of two years.

"We have been seeing the IPL, it started with the slap when Harbhajan Singh slapped Sreesanth and both were made to sit down and everything was perfectly fine .There was no disciplinary committee action against them, then you had molestation cases," Azad told ANI.

"Then you had rave parties where drug was being used and then it's gone on like that. So that has been the entertainment of IPL, any sports or sportsman basically has to be within discipline," he added.

"BCCI itself and let the players being indiscipline and that's the reason you find all these kind of problem, "he added

In a sensational verdict, the three-member Supreme Court appointed committee headed by Justice R.M. Lodha has found Chennai Super Kings (CSK) official Gurunath Meiyappan and Rajasthan Royals (RR) co-owner Raj Kundra guilty, and imposed life suspensions on the duo.

The committee also suspended Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals from participating in the IPL for a period of two years.
