The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) has rejected the Pakistan government's proposal to include teachings of Quran in the schools syllabus up to 2tenth standard.

The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training had sent a set of books containing Quran verses with translation to the CII for vetting and proposed to teach these books in schools up to tenth standard.

However, the CII members rejected the proposal and said that too many lacunas were present in the books.

The Council also held discussions on the Hague convention on Parental Responsibility and Protection of Children, sent by the Law Ministry and ruled that Pakistan should not sign it.

The meeting was chaired by CII chairman Maulana Mohammad Khan Sheerani, who said that certain clauses of the Hague Convention were contradictory to the Constitution of Pakistan.
