A 15-year-old boy reportedly died and two others were injured after security forces fired at protesters in Narbal in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.
Security forces claimed that they acted after being pelted with stones by agitators, while the protesters maintained that they had remained peaceful.
The incident comes in the wake of a complete shutdown across the Kashmir valley today on the call of Hurriyat hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
Geelani had called the bandh over the killing of a youth from Tral in Pulwama and the arrest of Hurriyat leaders, including separatist Masarat Alam.
All shops, businesses, government offices, schools and other establishments are closed and public transport is off the roads.
Alam, meanwhile, was remanded to seven-day police custody by a court in Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam district earlier in the day.
He was arrested on Friday in connection with "provocative and seditious" actions during a rally in Srinagar.
