Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley met AIADMK chief and former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa at her Poes Garden residence here on Sunday.
The meeting lasted for 40 minutes.
It was the first time that a BJP union minister had met Jayalalithaa following her conviction in a disproportionate assets case.
The AIADMK described it as a courtesy call, while the BJP is said to have approached her for possible extension of support for the passage of key Bills in Parliament during the upcoming budget session.
The AIADMK has 37 MPs in the Lok Sabha and 11 MPs in the Rajya Sabha. Both parties had fought against each other in the recent Lok Sabha polls.
