Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday urged the government to have crisp press releases, adding that all statements given should be replete with facts and figures.

"I've found in information that the Government prepares, that it should never be an essay, it should be crisp, but must have lot of facts and figures," said Jaitley, while inaugurating a media workshop for government officers of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) and Central ministries in the national capital.

Further stating that there is a distinction between propaganda and information, the minister asked the government media officers to put out government centric information in reader-friendly and easy-to-understand language.

"There is a large section of readers and viewers who are starved of the factual information," he added.

He also said that the media scenario has changed with the entry of 24x7 television channels.

Jaitley also stated that press releases may not find a mention in a prime time debate but they have the capacity to reach millions of people through digital media.
