James Mangold is in early negotiations to direct a biopic on legendary football quarterback Joe Namath.
The 50-year-old director, who's highly praised for his Johnny Cash biopic 'Walk the Line', would reteam with Elizabeth Gabler's Fox 2000, along with producers Andrew Lazar and Cathy Konrad, reports the Hollywood Reporter.
Namath, who is one of the most honored figures in New York sports history, played for that league's New York Jets for most of his professional football career in 1960s and 1970s after playing college football at the University of Alabama for coach Paul 'Bear' Bryant.
The 70-year-old quarterback who was also known to be a party boy and womanizer, which gained him the nickname 'Broadway Joe', finished his career with the NFL's Los Angeles Rams and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1985.
