The Janata Dal (United) and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Friday welcomed Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP Government's move to increase the salary of the Delhi MLAs, saying it was in tune with the rampant inflation.

"Keeping the inflation in mind, it is not wrong that their salary has increased after the report of the Seventh Pay Commission," JD (U) leader K.C Tyagi told ANI.

Echoing similar sentiments, NCP leader Majeed Memon said that the increase in salary should be reasonable.

"The MLAs should be given at least this much salary so that they do not indulge in corruption. Keeping with the inflation, the salaries of the judges, ministers and the MLAs should be increased with the cost of living," he added.

The Delhi Assembly had yesterday approved a 400 percent pay hike for the MLAs and ministers by passing the Members of the Legislative Assembly of the Government of NCT of Delhi (Salaries, Allowances, Pension) Amendment Bill 2015.

The House accepted the recommendations made by an independent committee of three experts.
