The Jharkhand Police has recovered three bombs in the state after receiving tip-off from villagers, ahead of scheduled polls as security personnel airlifted polling officers to respective booths in Maoist-infested areas.
The second phase of the three-phased polling in Jharkhand is slated on April 17 and the police is making all arrangements to ensure safe polling in areas which fall in Maoists corridor.
Villagers tipped-off police about a suspicious material lying on a roadside in Ramgarh town.
"Around 100 metres away from the roadside, something suspicious was lying in a polythene bag. When the police investigated they found they were crude bombs. We secured the bombs which were made from thin country made rope," said superintendent of police, Ramgarh, Ranjit Kumar Prasad.
Prasad said the bombs were secured and possibility of Maoist-involvement could not be ruled out.
Meanwhile, to ensure safe and peaceful voting, security personnel airlifted polling officers following Maoist threat.
"Naxal activities are rampant in this area and security personnel are deployed in sufficient numbers. Every polling booth has adequate number of security personnel. The whole area has been sanitised. Airlifting was our plan to gain confidence of polling officers who were going to the Naxal infested areas. They are a part of the general public and are scared of going to the area," said Superintendent of Police, Bokaro, Jitendra Kumar Singh.
