West Indies legend Brian Lara has lambasted the national team's batsmen, claiming that they were trying to be 'successful for themselves' instead of the squad following a disappointing performance against India at the WACA on Friday.

India recorded a four-wicket win over West Indies having first bowled out Jason Holder's men for a meager total of 182 runs. Lara had said before the match that the skipper should have bowled first on winning the toss.

Lara said that they have a false sense of belief in their batting, adding that he doesn't believe it's very strong at all. He said that the team bats extremely well against poor attacks but insisted that against first class bowlers the West Indians are found wanting on many occasions, News.com.au reported.

The former batting great said that he had one choice to make on winning the toss and that was to bowl and added that they did not do that.

Lara said that when one has a batting team one needs a story line, two guys aggressive up front, a middle order looking to accumulate in the middle and then one goes big at the end. He added that this looked like five or six individuals doing whatever they had to do to be successful for themselves, insisting that there was no plan at all and that's not going to work.

Lara claimed that he was a fan of Holder, who top scored with 57, but not as a leader. He said that he loves the skipper but believes that Holder is not that effective in the dressing room, not that forceful, with the egos they have in that room.
