While the cold wave has subsumed half of North India in its inhospitable sheath of snow, the Himachal tourism industry is making sure to cash in on every inch of the wintry turf. Tourists from all across the country have been pouring down in Shimla's Kufri town to enjoy winter sports such as snow-boarding, sledge rides, skating, gondola jaunts, cable car rides and skiing. These activities are in turn acting as a major source of employment to hundred of locals whose snow-related tourism business has registered a significant spike.
The sub-zero temperatures of the region has failed mark a dip in the spirits of tourists who are brimming with 'holiday' zeal. Some of whom, who are watching snow for the first time
"This is my first experience in Snow hare at Kufri. I have enjoyed these games here in snow .I would like to come again here," said Manpreet Kaur a tourist from Punjab.
Dakshita Shah, from Delhi said, "I want to tell everybody, that they can come here, have wonderful pictures and a wonderful experience,"
Over three hundred locals who are involved in snow related business these days are providing snow games to the tourist and expecting a good winter snow games business in days to come. Locals are exited this year to have a good business and expecting this good spell to continue at least till March.
"Tourists are enjoying a lot and it is also beneficial for local people, who work here. Kufri had a very good snowfall this year," said a tourist guide, Happy Chauhan.
It is regular for Himachal Pradesh to see such upsurge during winters, the holidaying crowd from the plains of India throng Himalayan regions to experience snowfall. After the heavy snowfall, tourists have been visiting Kufri hill resort where a spread of activities awaits them in the snow-capped mountains of Shimla. Tourists also opt to visit the highest peak in the vicinity, 'Mahsu peak' at an altitude of 9500 feet above from sea level. Winters this time has been a gift to both tourists and the local businessmen, who are skiing their way to banks.
