London police returns MQM Chief's passport

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has retrieved his passport from London Metropolitan Police following the cancellation of bail in a money laundering case.

Dawn reports that party's spokesperson Aminul Haque confirmed that returning of the passport was actually a proof that the allegations of money laundering were false and termed it a testament to Altaf's innocence.

Following the Rangers raid on MQM headquarters Nine Zero in March 2015, Altaf in an interview expressed a desire to return to Pakistan for the sake of his party.

On February 1, the bail of the party's supremo was cancelled in the case, exempting him from appearing before London's Metropolitan Police during future proceedings in the case.

On October 6 2015, the leader of the Karachi-based party was granted bail for the fifth time since beginning of the investigation over undocumented cash found at the MQM London office in December 2012.

The MQM supremo has been in self-exile in London since 1992. He has controlled MQM operations in Karachi sitting in the United Kingdom for nearly 24 years from now.
