The NEC Corporation of America (NEC), a leading provider and integrator of advanced IT, communications, network managed services and multimodal biometric solutions, has along with NEC Corporation announced that it was awarded a multi-year biometrics service contract with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD).
LVMPD is the largest police department in Nevada, overseeing a city of more than two million residents and one of the world's top tourist destinations.
The NEC will deliver its new Integra-ID 5(tm) multimodal biometric identification system (MBIS) upgrade to LVMPD as a service, meaning the NEC hosts and manages the solution at its data center.
New services and upgrades include advanced latent fingerprint processing, including multi-algorithm encoding and fusion matching on NEC's best-in-class Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) platform that easily scales to meet future needs that arise.
The NEC's Integra-ID 5(tm) SOA has built-in support of numerous biometrics modalities, including fingerprint, palm print, face, iris and voice.
"Our department is dedicated to fighting crime and improving the quality of life in Las Vegas as well as maintaining the safety of the millions of visitors that Las Vegas hosts each year," said Sheriff Joseph Lombardo.
"In addition to assuring us a top-of-the-line MBIS solution for our forensic needs, the NEC solution with its flexible service model and annual payment plan met our fiscal constraints and budgeting needs as well," he added.
The LVMPD project is one of several managed service contracts awarded to NEC in the past three months, distinguishing NEC as a premier provider of the Identity as a Service (IDaaS) model to law enforcement agencies in North America.
"The Las Vegas metropolitan area has had astonishing growth, becoming the most populous American city founded in the twentieth century," said Raffie Beroukhim, the Vice President of NEC Biometrics Solutions Division.
"We are pleased to have offered our IDaaS model, relieving LVMPD of a large capital expenditure and enabling the implementation of this upgrade through their operational budget," he added.
