Macmillan Education enters English language training market in India

Macmillan Education, one of the world's leading publishers of English Language teaching and school curriculum materials is launching its Language Learning Resources for the Indian market.

Macmillan aims to reach over 10 lakh students in the next 3 to 5 years, accessing the huge language learning space in India. The ELT market an estimated Rs. 30000 crore in India, is growing annually at 19 percent CAGR. The company aims to increase its market share to over 10 percent in the K-12 market and simultaneously capture 5 percent of the Higher Ed. and Vocational market over the next three years, through its strategic foray in the language learning market.

Speaking about the venture, Jeremy Dieguez, Managing Director, Global Education Group at Macmillan Education said, "Macmillan has a 124-year long association with India. Given our sizeable presence here and our market understanding, we expect our ELT products to find a ready market and are excited to be able to offer Indian students, international quality ELT education."

What's unique about Macmillan's Language Learning tools is the flexibility they offer to customers - Macmillan Practice Online and Macmillan English Campus (MEC). MEC is an intuitive language learning platform with graded online material for ELT. Currently there are 100000 students enrolled on MEC and 150 ELT institutions accessing 60 courses. What is different about MEC is the flexibility that it offers institutions to integrate ELT into their syllabus and students to approach learning at their own pace. MPO offers individual students the opportunity to cherry pick ELT courses in General English, Business English and Exams and learns anytime anywhere.

Speaking about the initiative, Emma Bourne, Managing Director, Schools at Macmillan Education said, "For India's demographics to pay dividends - employability is the key. Macmillan understands this huge need in the market, with our entry into Indian markets, we want to fulfill our vision of making language training accessible and affordable and bring it on par with international standards."

Yash Mehta, Director, Macmillan Education India added, "To cater to the underserviced English language need of students studying in government schools, Macmillan has launched its localized Language learning tool called Let's Converse. Let's Converse aims to develop fluency and comprehension skills through active involvement in the classroom. The programme uses expository methodology to teach, reinforce and practice language. Consisting of 30 modules and grammar games the product is a teachers' delight and has already been adopted by four state governments to improve language skills in government schools.
