The government laboratory in Mysore, which was asked to determine whether the presence of MSG/Glutamic Acid in Maggi noodles were within permissible limits, submitted its report to the Supreme Court on Tuesday.

The apex court had in January this year asked the leading research laboratory to conduct tests in this regard.

Meanwhile, Maggi's manufacturer Nestle during the hearing today told the apex court that the food department notification concedes no lab test can determine MSG presence.

Nestle further maintained its stand that MSG occurs naturally in grains and that no added MSG was present in Maggi noodles.

The next hearing in this matter, during which the test results would be argued, has been scheduled for July 19.

The Consumer Commission had on December 10 last year sent 16 more samples of Maggi noodles for testing in the Chennai lab to ascertain the quantity of lead and MSG in them in connection with the government's Rs. 640 crore suit against the company for alleged unfair trade practices.

The court had on December 16 last year ordered testing of samples of Maggi noodles in the Mysore laboratory after the.. (NCDRC) had directed that it be done in Chennai.

The apex court had stayed the proceedings before the NCDRC and directed that the test reports, including the earlier one, be placed before it.
