The Congress Party on Tuesday said that the decision of the Maharashtra Government to allow only Marathi speaking people to get permit for new auto rickshaw is taken without considering the character of Mumbai city which includes people from all over the country.
"This is a decision taken by the government. I don't know whether it is a practical proposition," Congress leader P C Chacko told ANI.
"Probably, the government should have taken into consideration the character of the Mumbai city which includes the people from all over the country," he added.
The Maharashtra Government had earlier issued an order saying only Marathi speaking people would be allowed to get permit for new auto rickshaw from November 1.
"After November 1, permit for new auto rickshaw will be given only to those applicants who can speak Marathi," said Maharashtra Transport Minister Diwakar Raote.
