Manipur Government formally felicitated the sportspersons of the State who participated in the Commonwealth games held in Glasgow recently. The function is being held at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex in Imphal.
The felicitation programme was graced by Manipur Governor, V.K. Duggal, Chief Minister O. Ibobi Singh, I.. Hemochandra Singh, Minister of PHED and President Manipur Olympic Association, and M. Prithiviraj Singh, MLA and presidium members.
Apart from the Council of Ministers, MLAs, senior Civil Officers, Police Officials and sports loving persons alongwith parents and guardians also attended the the felicitation programme.
The gold medal winners are being given Rs. 15 lakhs while silver medal winners are being given Rs 10 lakhs each. The bronze medalists get Rs. 8 lakhs each.
Six sportspersons who had failed to bag any medal were also given Rs. 2 lakh each by way of encouragement.
Sanjita Khumukcham had opened the gold medal account for India by winning the first gold medal in the 48 kg weight lifting. Six other silver medalists are Kangujam Chinglensana and Kotharjit Kadangbam in hockey, Mirabai Saikhom in weight lifting, Sushila Likmabam in Judo, Sarita Laishram and Devendro Laishram both in boxing.
Kalpana Thoudam had bagged bronze medal in judo. The sportspersons who had failed to bag any medals are Sunibala Huidrom and Jina Chongtham in judo, Anuradha Thockom and Sushila Pukhrambam in hockey, Sunita Yanglem in cycling and Ramananda Kongbrailatpam in diving.
