Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday met Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, on the sidelines of seven-nation grouping Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).

The meeting is took place when the United States is expected to move a resolution at the UNHRC, over the alleged war crimes committed by Sri Lanka during the operations against LTTE rebels.

In 2012 India backed U.S.-sponsored resolution at the U.N. Human Rights Council which called on Sri Lanka to investigate human rights violations during its civil war.
