Two-time Wimbledon champion Rafael Nadal suffered a shocking fourth-round defeat against Luxembourg's Gilles Muller to bow out of the Wimbledon on Monday.

Muller scored the biggest win of his career to outlast Nadal 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 15-13 in front of a captivated No.1 Court crowd in a heart-pounding match that lasted for almost five hours.

34-year-old Muller came close to finishing the job sooner when he held two match points with the Spaniard serving at 4-5 in the fifth set, and another two at 9-10.

Muller let those opportunities slip by but held his nerve admirably to convert his fifth match point in the 28th game of the decider to seal a memorable win after four hours and 48 minutes on court.

"It's the win of his life," said the 34-year-old after the marathon victory.

"I haven't really realised what just happened - it's just a great feeling."

The victory puts the No.16 seed into his first Wimbledon quarter-final where he will play seventh seeded Marin Cilic.

Earlier, Roger Federer and Andy Murray made their way to the quarter-finals by winning their respective fourth round matches.

Third seed Federer reached his 50th Grand Slam quarter-final and 15th at Wimbledon with a 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 win over Grigor Dimitrov, while defending champion Murray eased past France's Benoit Paire 7-6 (7/1), 6-4, 6-4 in straight sets.

Federer, 18-time Grand Slam champion, will now face Canada's Milos Raonic while Murray will face Sam Querrey for a place in the semi-finals.
