Sri Lanka skipper Angelo Mathews has respected batting legend Kumar Sangakkara's recent criticism on his country's cricket selectors, but added that the selection committee can make mistakes as well.
The batting stalwart, who called curtains on his glorious Test career after playing 134 Tests, had earlier lashed out at the selectors for dropping experience players, particularly, Lahiru Thirimanne for the New Zealand tour.
Describing Sangakkara as one of the 'biggest legends', the 28-year-old all-rounder insisted that different people have different opinions, Stuff.co.nz reported.
Mathews, however, offered his support to the selectors, saying that they should try to rectify the mistakes they had done and move forward.
The skipper said that no changes can be made now and that his side could only try to play their best in the second Test against New Zealand in Hamilton, which starts on Friday.
Mathew said that it wouldn't matter even if his side go down 2-0 in the series but called on his side to put up a determined show. He also insisted that Sri Lanka have a great chance of securing an equalizer and that they need to apply themselves in the upcoming match.
New Zealand are leading 1-0 in the series after comprehensively defeating Sri Lanka by 122 runs in the first Test in Dunedin.
