New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum has become the fourth player from his country to pass 5000 Test runs following his ninth Test century that gave the hosts a chance of saving the second Test against India at Wellington on Sunday.
McCullum was unbeaten on 114 at stumps on day three at the Basin Reserve as New Zealand reached 252-5 off 99 overs in their second innings, a lead of six runs, and along with wicketkeeper BJ Watling, the pair added a vital 158 for the sixth wicket.
According to Stuff.co.nz, however, New Zealand needs to bat right through Monday to make the series safe after arriving at the Basin Reserve 1-0 up.
The report mentioned that although India is still on top, with James Neesham the only recognised batsman remaining, but the momentum shifted markedly with the gritty fightback despite veteran Zaheer Khan ripping through the New Zealand top order.
