McCullum, Williamson win big at New Zealand cricket awards

Skipper Brendon McCullum has been declared as the winner of the Sir Richard Hadlee medal, while compatriot Kane Williamson bagged the awards for Best Batsman and Player of the Year across all three formats of the game at the New Zealand cricket awards in Auckland.

New Zealand reached their first World Cup final under the bold leadership of McCullum following a golden summer that saw them dominate Pakistan and Sri Lanka in test and one-day cricket.

McCullum received the supreme award- Cricketer of the Year award-in view of his stellar individual performance during Test and one-day tournament against Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

McCullum smacked a double century in a test against Pakistan in Sharjah in November and in the process recorded the fastest century ever scored by a New Zealander, Stuff.co.nz reported.

The explosive batsman further created history when he became the first New Zealander to score 1000 test runs in a calendar year against Sri Lanka in Christchurch during an innings of 195.

On the other hand, Williamson delivered an outstanding performance as he smashed three Test and ODI centuries during the 2014-15 season.

Meanwhile, fast bowler Trent Boult bagged the Bowler of the Year award as he became the first New Zealander to claim most wickets at a World Cup with 22 scalps.
