McGinley says Europe will not underestimate U.S. at Ryder Cup

Europe Ryder Cup team captain Paul McGinley has said that his side would not underestimate the United States (U.S.) team in the tournament at Gleneagles.

The average world ranking of the 12 European players is 19, compared to 16 for the Americans. However, defending champions Europe start the competition at Gleneagles on Friday as favourites.

McGinley said that the bookies are making Europe slight favourites but this is not a weak American team, adding that this is not an American team to be underestimated, as it would be a very strong, well led American team, The BBC reported.

The Europe team captain said that slight favourites or slight underdogs, there is not much of a difference. He said that it is going to be tough, a heavyweight contest, toe to toe, right to the very end, like the previous Ryder Cups have been.

McGinley also said that Europe is going to have to be very strong, adding that they are going to be on top of this team and play incredibly well to win this Ryder Cup.
