Police in Melbourne, Australia have confirmed the arrest of a 17-year-old on charges of allegedly plotting a terrorist attack somewhere in the city.
The police said Saturday that they had conducted a counter-terrorism raid on the teen's home located in Melbourne's North on Friday and found three 'suspicious items' and material associated with the making of explosives. The bomb squad thereafter neutralized the devices.
Describing the incident as 'deeply troubling', news.com.au quoted Australian Federal Police Deputy Commissioner Mike Phelan, as saying it was an extremely serious offence.
The acting Deputy Commissioner of Victoria Police, Robert Hill, was quoted, as assuring the community of Victoria that they had contained the situation.
The teen has been remanded to police custody and is expected to be produced before a court here on Monday.
