A cavalcade of ten cars, including a jammer vehicle, brought Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi to the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) campus here on Thursday afternoon.
Modi, who was sitting inside a Tata car, waved and showed the victory sign to a sea of BJP supporters who were wearing orange coloured caps, shouting campaigns in support of Modi, and waving BJP flags, and had been waiting for his arrival for several hours.
There was a slight law and order situation as soon as Modi's cavalcade entered the roundabout around the university campus, but the security detail of Modi managed to gain control to ensure that the route was opened up within ten to fifteen seconds.
Television reports said that Modi is heading towards to the BJP headquarters in Varanasi to interact with senior party leaders and key city-based workers.
He is likely to take part in a road show.
Earlier in the day, senior leaders of the BJP Amit Shah and Arun Jaitley used their presence in the city to highlight what the BJP claimed was the partisan decision of the Election Commission in denying Modi permission to address a rally in a congested area of the holy city.
They claimed that the BJP was protesting peacefully against the EC decision that supported the actions of the returning officer and district magistrate.
