Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi was given a standing ovation by invitees soon after his arrival in the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhavan for his swearing-in as India's 15th Prime Minister.
People in the visitors section shouted "Bharat Mata Ki" and "Vande Mataram" to welcome Narendra Modi, who disembarked from his SPG-protected Scorpio SUV.
He was received by the Secretary to President Pranab Mukherjee, Omita Pal, and escorted to his seat next to Home Minister-designate and BJP president Rajnath Singh.
Soon after Modi's arrival, Vice-President Mohammad Hamid Ansari and his wife Salma Ansari arrived at the venue and were escorted to their seats.
Between 3000 to 4000 plus guests will witness the swearing-in ceremony of Modi and 44 other ministers. They will be sworn into office by President Pranab Mukherjee.
Modi is the third person after Atal Behari Vajpayee and Chandrashekar to be sworn-in as the Prime Minister of India in the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan.
