Modi slams Congress for making false promises in election manifesto

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi made a blistering attack on the Congress in Gumla district of Jharkhand on Thursday, over corruption cases, and accused it of making false promises in its election manifesto.

Modi hit at the Congress criticizing its manifesto that was released on Wednesday, saying it misled people by making huge claims while the ground reality was just the opposite.

"Brothers and sisters, the Congress party released its manifesto yesterday, they announced their achievements in the manifesto, brothers and sisters, for any political party, election manifesto should be equivalent to Bible or Gita, or Koran. It should not be a document to fool people," he said

He said that Election Commission should frame legislation, so that, parties emerging as winners in the polls should be made answerable to the promises made in their manifestoes.

Promising inclusive growth for all sections of society from poor, middle class to business class, Congress party released its manifesto on Wednesday in its last attempt to fight anti-incumbency in the upcoming elections.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi, and Vice President Rahul Gandhi unveiled the manifesto, focusing on poverty, women, youth and minorities.
